You have control over your interactions on TikTok, including blocking and removing comments and direct messages, so pay no attention to the critics — this is your show.
We want you to feel like you can be yourself on TikTok, and we encourage you to report harmful messages and comments that may be against our Community Guidelines.
You might also interact with people in comments or through direct messaging that you don't know personally. While making new friends is cool, it's super important to know who you are interacting with online.
We want you to feel empowered to report interactions that make you feel unsafe, even if you are unsure if the behavior/content is illegal or goes against our Community Guidelines. It's never OK for someone to make you feel uncomfortable.
Finally, you should block and report anyone who is harassing you or sending you unwanted content. You also don't need to respond to mean or hurtful comments.
Once you file a report on TikTok, we also encourage you to talk to an adult who you trust. While you may not need to show the content that's made you uncomfortable, you can talk about what's happening with a family member, parent, teacher, counselor, or family friend who can make sure you feel safe and supported.
Test your knowledge on how to stay safe and secure on TikTok and other online spaces. (Don't worry, you won't be graded!)
Before you get started, here's a hint: TikTok will never message you to ask for your account password, bank account info, or any other sensitive data. If anyone ever asks for this information or requests money, don't share it and immediately file a report. Learn more about how to avoid fraudulent messages.
